Aircraft Lease Firms Change Terms?

Thursday, August 16, 2012
Fearful that their planes might be impounded in Europe if lessee airlines default on the EU’s emissions trading system (EU ETS tax) for airline carbon emissions, reports say airline leasing firms are changing the terms of their contracts.
Persistent breaches of the EU law could in extreme cases lead to aircraft being impounded.

It is understood new clauses are being added to contracts to ensure the financial burden of any penalty falls on the aircraft operator.

Airlines in India, China and potentially the US (which is considering outlawing compliance) are likely to be first affected.
