U.S. Companies, Osun Plan Equipment Leasing Partnerships
Osun State is prospecting for partnership in the United States for agriculture and construction equipment leasing companies.
The State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who spoke with journalists at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, shortly after arriving from the US on Wednesday, said it was meant to attract investors to the state in the agriculture and allied sector.
The investment trip, the governor said, afforded him the opportunity to meet the Corporate Council on Africa and the investment opportunities were explored.
He said, “Until those things materialise, we cannot say much. But what we have achieved is to expose the world to the focus of our administration and the areas where there are opportunities for collaboration.
“This exists in agriculture in commercial farming as well as in the area of farming input; from improved seedlings, agro allied industries to agricultural equipment. We are prospecting for partnership in agricultural leasing and construction equipment leasing. All of these came up for discussion with the Corporate Council on Africa.”
He said that the administration was doing a lot to sensitise the world about the business opportunities in the state, adding, “The response we received was quite encouraging and are hopeful and expectant.”
The governor said he also stopped at the prestigious Harvard University, where he addressed the African academic community of developments in Nigeria and the challenges of leadership in the country.
He said, “We went to one of the best higher institutions of learning in the world, Harvard University. We met with the African caucus in Harvard, where we showcased our performance to date and areas their own exposure will be of assistance.”
“I delivered a lecture at Harvard. We met the intellectual community, and told them how we understand the developments in Nigeria as well as the challenges that face our nation. We showcased the catalogue of knowledge and the people seem to be interested in what we are doing in Osun State. We are collaborating with many companies.”
The governor also said that the African – American community was interested in facilitating partnership in the area of tourism; “so, we expect very many of them in this year’s Osun Osogbo festival.”
Aregbesola called on Nigerians to support the newly formed political party, All Progressive Congress, as the platform that would provide credible leadership for the people.
He said, “I am hopeful that the APC will open a new vista that will guarantee for our people, security, employment, freedom, liberty and good life.”
